Understanding Complex Systems
HIDDEN BENEATH ORGANISATIONS, MARKETS, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETIES ARE STRUCTURES THAT SHAPE BEHAVIOUR AND OUTCOMES
Tillbourne is a research and advisory practice exploring the systems that shape our world and the leverage points that can transform it.
AREAS OF EXPLORATION
Organisations
Why some organisations adapt and thrive while others fail.
Technology
How emerging technologies, especially AI, reshape decision-making and system architecture.
Energy & Resources
The physical systems that underpin prosperity and collective wellbeing.
Societies & Government
The structures that enable collective action and shape our shared future.
CURRENT QUESTIONS
The Organisational Manifold
Can organisations be mapped into a common space to reveal their underlying shape?
AI as a Context Layer
What happens when intelligence becomes ambient; embedded across every system
Organisational Shape
Can hidden structure be inferred from observable behaviour and outcomes?
ADVISORY
Alongside the research, Tillbourne advises leadership teams on growth, operating models and organisational effectiveness.
Always with a focus on underlying structure, not just symptoms
Diagnose
Understand how the system actually operates: who makes decisions, on what information, and with what delay.
Redesign
Reconfigure decision rights, information flows and incentives to produce different outcomes.
Make Observable
Introduce simple mechanisms that allow the system to see itself and adapt
Why Tillbourne?
Alistair Lovegrove spent more than twenty years helping organisations grow, transform and adapt, including serving as a Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer in consulting and technology businesses.
Before entering industry, he completed a doctorate in nonlinear physics at Oxford, studying how complex behaviour emerges from hidden structures.
Tillbourne brings those two perspectives together: rigorous systems thinking and practical organisational experience.
